Post-Athfest Recovery

I'm too exhausted to get any audio up here at the moment, but rest assured I just replenished the vault with some good stuff this weekend. I always give up on Sunday's shows on the main stage, opting to spend that day on the couch, but I still managed to record a lot:

Pete McBrayer
The Mother Jackson Orchestra
Workhorses Of The Entertainment/Recreational Industry
Garbage Island
Pegasuses
The Nightingale News
Jesse Flavin
The Dumps
Time Toy
Don Chambers + GOAT
Now It's Overhead
Diet Rockstar
Nutria
Producto

I'll of course be posting as much as possible from the weekend over time.

In case anyone's still not convinced about Athfest this weekend, here's a clip of Kimberly Morgan, who plays two shows during the festival (schedule is here), here backed by The Everloving Band.

Now It's Overhead @ 40 Watt 3/16/04

After taking a year off, Now It's Overhead are about to hit the road again and release a new album. Their tour starts with their Saturday night headline set at Athfest.

(The title of my blog is taken from "Who's Jon?" in case anyone was curious; it's also at least the working title of a documentary about Athens music by my friend Will Brooks. I'll be posting more about the film as it progresses.)

Echo Canyon @ Flicker 4/17/06

Craig Lieske always has a couple projects going on in Athens' "experimental" scene. This one leans to the free jazz side. Southern Bitch's Chuck Bradburn and Jim Wilson of Mother Jackson complete the trio.

The New Sound Of Numbers @ Flicker 6/10/06

Elephant 6 marches on. Circulatory System drummer Hannah Jones has picked up the electric 12-string to lead The New Sound Of Numbers, with CS bandmates John Fernandes and Heather McIntosh (on bass rather than her usual cello) helping out, along with Kathryn Refi on drums and Josh Skinner on percussion. The album "Liberty Seeds" will be released in September on Athens' Cloud Recordings. Several shows are booked, including the 40 Watt this Friday, and Popfest in August.

Scott E. Spillane @ 40 Watt Club 8/11/05

The Gerbils' Scott Spillane played a brief set at Happy Happy Birthday To Me's Popfest last summer (this year's schedule looks promising).  Scott had some tech problems with guitar and amp, but still turned in an interesting set.
