Southern Bitch: Live At The 40 Watt/Musickfest

OK, folks here's a chance to help someone in need while getting your rock on. Wendy Musick of Southern Bitch needs surgery to remove a tumor on the pancreas; like many musicians she doesn't have health insurance. Some friends have put together a fantastic 2-night benefit show, dubbed Musickfest, to raise money for her medical bills, featuring performances by folks like Patterson Hood, David Barbe, Will Johnson, Dave Marr, Mother Jackson, and many more. The shows are October 5&6, at the 40 Watt and Nuci's Space.

But that's not all! Two years ago several friends and I shot/recorded the Bitch's Snake In The Grass release show, but the footage fell through the cracks and we never completed the project. The good news is that it's done, and we've made a limited batch of DVDs to sell at Musickfest to raise more money. I believe the cost will be $8, and all materials and work have been donated, so 100% of the money raised from DVDs will go directly to Wendy's fund. Leftovers may be made available online after the show, but we hope not to have any. Here's a clip of "Come On" from the DVD.

New Today

I installed Playtagger, now you can click on the little Play button to the left of the links and it should stream fairly instantly without having to leave the page, or have another application open. Click on the word Playing to pause. And of course you can still Right-Click>Save As if you're putting the files on an iPod, or whatever you were doing before.

Mouser @ 40 Watt 8/11/06

Mouser play crazy freak-out stuff with no faking: there's real writing and real playing going on. I'd mention Zappa and Beefheart, but that would be leaving out a lot. This set's been getting lots of play at my house.

Track 2 - Liquor Kitty
Track 3 - Netherlands

Lorkakar @ ATHICA 8/26/06

I think this wraps up my AUX Event coverage. Lorkakar is the electronic side project of Hannah Jones (of Circulatory System & The New Sound Of Numbers). Our friend Optical Atlas has posted a recent interview that covers this performance.

Black Swan Network @ ATHICA 8/26/06

Another brief performance from the AUX Event, Black Swan Network is the experimental project by Will Hart. Will prepared four CDs of sounds he recorded and manipulated, which were played back simultaneously from various spots in the room. Some of the surround effect is lost by only having 2-channel stereo, but I think enough of it is conveyed to give the listener some sense of it.

Cinemechanica @ 40 Watt 8/11/06

Cinemechanica have added a second drummer since I saw them last, and released a record. They've got an extensive tour kicking off soon (take earplugs if they're hitting your town, they hold the record for playing the only show I've ever left because it was so LOUD).
Track 1 - I'm Tired Of Paul McCartney
Track 2 - Brain Tarp
Track 3 -
Track 4 -
Track 5 - Take Me To The Hospital

BONUS: Cinemechanica has a side project called Megaband, playing the music from the Megaman games while the game is played live on a projection screen behind the band. I'm only posting a sample track here because they have a DVD for sale of their live show.

Apples In Stereo closed out the Popfest with a great set featuring several songs from their upcoming New Magnetic Wonder. Bill Doss (Olivia Tremor Control/The Sunshine Fix) has joined (permanently?) on multiple instruments and vocals.
