Big Eyed Beans From Venus 11/16/06 @ Five Spot

I don't normally get very excited about "tribute" bands, but then a Captain Beefheart tribute band isn't just learning the chords and half the lyrics. Big Eyed Beans From Venus have obviously put in tons of work (there's really no way to half-ass Beefheart's music).

For this show the guys arranged for some special guests: Rockette Morton and Feelers Rebo (Denny Walley) were both members of Beefheart's Magic Band (Morton appearing on the seminal Trout Mask Replica, Walley also did a stint with Zappa).

Drive-By Truckers 2006-11-03/4 @ 40 Watt

Drive-By Truckers played their last Athens show "for a while," as they're taking at least the next year off to do solo projects and put in family time. Both Patterson and Jason have solo albums in the can that should finally see release, and I hope with all that free time Cooley will decide to do one of his own.

There are way too many tracks to link individually, but the Live Music Archive has both FLAC and MP3 (VBR MP3 is what you want) files permanently stored for both nights.
