'Powers @ 40 Watt 9/19/07

'Powers are a four-guitar, one-drummer band who play in a quadraphonic setup, with the audience actually standing between members of the band. The group (which includes members of Cinemechanica and We Vs. The Shark) plays high-energy instrumentals with "interlocking" guitar parts bouncing all around the listeners. We only have two channels to work with here, so this won't completely represent their sound; seeing 'em live is essential.

The H.E.A.P. Project is a new project fronted by bassist Bryan Howard (Kevn Kinney's S.T.A.R., Slackdaddy), one of two bassists. A 3-piece horn section punctuates funk-rock grooves, covering a niche not often explored in the current Athens scene.

Gimme Shelter Benefit @ 40 Watt 8/15/07

A cast of thousands (or a couple dozen at least) of Athens musicians came together to bash out some Neil Young covers, to benefit Athens Area Homeless Shelter. In addition to the singers and bands listed below, lots of assistance was rendered by folks like Clay Leverett (Lona/The Chasers), Michael Gibson (Dashboard Saviors), Todd Nance (Widespread Panic/Barbara Cue), Mike Mills (R.E.M.), John Neff (John Neff), etc.
